R. Nachmani says we "add a month before Adar."
This is imprecise. The tradition says we intercalate a month. But which month is the intercalated one?
Some authorities hold that Adar I is the added month, and Adar II is the original Adar. Others hold the reverse — that we push Adar back, making Adar I the original.
Before we encode, we should understand what we are encoding.
