R. Nachmani is right that experiences matter. But I see this differently.
In Israel, we have Gadna. We have scouts, the Tzofim. We have the kibbutz experience, which shaped my parents' generation profoundly. We have the mechina year. We have the army, which is formative in ways Americans do not understand.
If we are listing formative Jewish experiences, whose list are we writing?
