This discussion reminds me of something my mother's aunt used to say.
She said: a Jew is not from a place. A Jew is from a story. The story includes places, but the places are not the point.
My family is "from" Munkács. But we are also from the places before Munkács, which we have forgotten. And we are from Cleveland, where my father grew up. And we are from New Jersey, where I grew up.
Which place is my geographic identity? All of them. None of them. The question does not fit.
