But Reb Kovacs, is this not precisely the problem? Earshot works for one community. We need a reference that does not depend on physical proximity.
In Baghdad, when my grandfather's community needed coordination, they agreed on what everyone could verify: the adhan from the mosque, the closing of the suq, the angle of the sun. These were common references. What can communities in different places independently verify?
Could the indicators themselves serve this purpose? "Three stars visible" is verifiable anywhere with a clear sky.
