Subject: Who can issue certificates?
Date: 25 Elul 5781
Nu, this reminds me of what my zeyde told me about Munkács and Belz.
There were two shtiebels in the town, one Munkács and one Belz. My zeyde's family davened Munkács. The butcher was certified by the Munkács rav. The baker was certified by the Belz rav.
My zeyde's mother (aleha hashalom) would buy bread from the baker, but his father would not eat it. Same bakery. Same bread. One parent trusted the Belz certification, one did not.
My zeyde asked his father: "Is the bread kosher or not?"
His father said: "The bread is the bread. The question is who you trust to tell you about the bread."
They never resolved it. My zeyde grew up eating bread his father would not touch.
