So: revocation is a statement about the present, not the past. We are not saying the procedure did not happen. We are saying we no longer endorse the certificate.
The reasons could be: 1. The issuer made a procedural error 2. The subject's key was compromised 3. The subject requests revocation 4. New information casts doubt on the original attestation
The past is unchanged. The current status is updated.
