Ben-Ari names what I was circling around.
Opacity benefits those who can assume their meaning is shared. An Orthodox community in Jerusalem uses @JRS knowing everyone in their community understands it the same way.
But when documents cross community boundaries — and they will — opacity becomes a source of confusion, not clarity.
