Subject: Digital verification of kashrut certification
Date: 24 Elul 5780
Let me see if I understand what is being proposed.
We certify process completion, not status. A certificate says: "This identifier completed this procedure, under this policy, witnessed by these parties." It does not say what the procedure means. It does not claim the identifier has any particular status.
A kashrut certificate would say: "This product was supervised according to procedure X, by individuals who completed training Y, under the oversight of authority Z." It would not say: "This product is kosher." Different consumers, looking at the same certificate, could reach different conclusions about whether to eat the product.
Is this the proposal?
