Subject: The epoch question

The practical answer is to use an existing epoch.
Unix time uses 1 January 1970. Julian day numbers use 1 January 4713 BCE. These are established conventions. Any implementation will need to convert between our dates and these systems eventually.
Use their epoch. Do the conversion. Why invent our own?
