Subject: The epoch question
Date: 23 Shevat 5780
I need to calculate the number of days between two dates.
If I convert to Unix time, I need to know the correspondence between dates and Unix timestamps. That correspondence requires knowing what date corresponds to the Unix epoch.
1 January 1970 in the Christian calendar is 23 Tevet 5730. Is this our reference point? Or do we convert through Julian day numbers, which gives a different calculation path?
The choice affects how arithmetic works internally.
