Subject: The uniqueness requirement
Date: 8 Sivan 5783
The Rebbetzin describes something that happened to me when I tried to write my own block.
I started simply. BJ O K+ Sh+ Ho+ Tx+. This seemed accurate. Then I thought: surely this is taken. So I added. My grandfather's Hungarian tradition. My complicated relationship with the State of Israel. My uncertainty about prayer despite regular practice.
By the time I was done, I had written a paragraph compressed into notation. Every ambivalence documented. Every hedged feeling encoded.
I am not sure the result describes me better than the simple version. But it is certainly unique.
