Let me return to the question of what the intensity levels mean.
Dr. Stern asked at the outset why we have twelve modifiers. Rav Halevi answered that they are relative to the author's reference frame. I accept this.
But even within a single person's reference frame, what distinguishes ++ from +++?
I keep kosher carefully. More carefully than most people I know. Less carefully than some. Is this + or ++ or +++? The modifiers are relative, but relative to what?
