Devorah's distinction reminds me of two people I knew.
One was a man who ate only at his sister's house. Not because he was strict, but because he was indecisive. He did not know what standard to keep. So he kept his sister's standard. He was K?.
The other was a man who kept kosher at home, mostly, except for bacon on Sundays. He knew exactly what he was doing. He called himself a bad Jew but he was not uncertain about it. He was K~.
Both were between kosher and not. But the between was different.
