Subject: The mechitza model
Let me try a different approach.
For practical purposes, gender in traditional Jewish contexts often means: which side of the mechitza do you sit on?
This is not metaphysics. It is not Talmudic categorization. It is a simple observable fact about how a person navigates Jewish space.
G:M — I sit in the men's section G:F — I sit in the women's section G:x — I decline to state, or this does not apply to me
This sidesteps the question of what gender "is." It captures only what a person does.
