R. Nachmani's framing is clever, but it encodes a particular kind of synagogue. Many Jews — Reform, Reconstructionist, many Conservative, most Israeli secular — have never seen a mechitza.
For them, "which side do you sit on?" is meaningless. They sit wherever they sit.
We would be encoding Orthodox practice as the default. Is this what we intend?
