The Rebbetzin makes a distinction I had not considered.

The specification encodes Jewish identity. Gender is not a Jewish identity. It is a human identity that has Jewish implications.

But so is ethnicity. We include background codes for Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Mizrachi. These are not "Jewish" in the sense of practice or belief. They are origins that shape Jewish experience.

If we include ethnicity, why not gender?
