Subject: Digital verification of kashrut certification

Have we consulted anyone about digitizing religious certification?
The hechsher carries weight because an authority stands behind it. A rabbi takes responsibility for what he certifies. Digitizing the verification process (making it automatic, removing the phone call) changes something about that relationship. Perhaps nothing important. Perhaps something essential. I do not know.
I am not opposed to this work. I want us to consider what we are doing.
