Dr. Stern identifies the core problem. We have modifiers without semantics.
Consider kashrut. The draft allows K+, K++, K+++, K++++. What distinguishes ++ from +++?
If I keep kosher carefully but eat at vegetarian restaurants without checking for a hechsher, am I + or ++? If I only buy glatt kosher but sometimes use the same sponge for meat and dairy, am I ++ or +++?
We are providing a scale without calibration.
