Subject: The committee's questions
The chair observes that we are discussing several related questions:
1. What do the intensity levels (+, ++, +++, ++++) mean? 2. Should we define them precisely? 3. What happens if users exceed the suggested maximum? 4. Are the modifiers measurements or feelings (as Reb Kovacs puts it)?
I would add a fifth question that has emerged in discussion elsewhere: what is the difference between uncertain (?) and approximate (~)?
Let us address these in order.
