On questions 1 through 4:
I am persuaded that we cannot calibrate across people. Rav Halevi and Reb Kovacs have convinced me. The modifiers are relative to the author's reference frame.
Perhaps the specification should say this explicitly. We provide the vocabulary. We do not provide the scale.
On question 5, the distinction between ? and ~, I have thoughts that I will share separately.
