Subject: Communities differ

I have been observing this discussion, and I want to note something.

Every argument for including gender can be reversed. Gender is relevant to practice — but communities disagree on how. Gender categories exist in tradition — but they do not map to modern understandings. Trans Jews need recognition — but different communities recognize them differently.

We could include gender and produce a specification that some communities find useful and others find offensive. Or we could exclude it and be accused of erasure.

There is no neutral position.
