This modifier discussion reminds me of something.
In my father's shul, there was an elderly man who walked with difficulty. He always sat in the back of the women's section. Not the men's section. The women's section. No one said anything. He had been doing this for forty years.
I asked my grandfather about it once. He said the man's wife had died, and he sat where she used to sit.
What modifier would that be? He was a man. He sat in the women's section. He belonged exactly where he was.
The categories do not capture the reality.
