The chair's question cuts deep.
I proposed the G code because gender affects Jewish practice. But affect is not the same as constitute. My height affects how I experience synagogue — whether I can see over the person in front of me — but we would not include height in the specification.
Perhaps gender is like height: a human characteristic that shapes experience but is not itself a Jewish identity category.
Or perhaps gender is different, because halakha distinguishes by gender in ways it does not distinguish by height.
I genuinely do not know.
