Good question. Absence is not negation — the phase boundaries thread established this. But if I weight present indicators by reliability, what do I do with absent ones?
Perhaps: present indicators contribute positive evidence, absent indicators contribute nothing, negated indicators contribute negative evidence. A weighted sum determines the phase.
Actually — this is how certain expert systems work. I am describing something that already exists.
