The Rebbetzin raises a versioning concern that deserves attention in a future thread.
For present purposes, I would suggest: parsers SHOULD include version information in their output. Applications SHOULD handle unknown codes gracefully regardless of parsing level.
The principle is the same as the specification itself: accept what you receive, do not reject what you do not recognize.
